Much is written about the full moon and the new moon. Ironically, these only account for less than a quarter of the 29.5 day lunar cycle. So what’s happening between the full moon and new moon? What are the other two of the four phases of the moon’s cycle?
Well, the quick answer is transitional phases from the new moon to the full moon and visa versa are the waxing and waning moon phases. But more importantly, what does this mean for you? Starting with the Basics
The time period after the new moon but before the full moon is knowing as the waxing phase or waxing moon. It’s when the moon gradually becomes more fully illuminated in the sky each night. Conversely, a waning moon begins just after the full moon. It continues until the moon becomes decreasing visible in the sky reaching the new moon phase.
Let’s look at these individually… starting with the waxing moon. The Waxing Moon
This is when the moon is appearing to become more fully illuminated in the sky each night.
Immediately following the new moon which is about beginnings the planting seeds and laying the plans, the waxing phase is about gathering the resources needed to fertilize the ground for your efforts to take root and grow. It’s an optimal time for reenforcement…. strengthening and fertilizing those seeds of desires and goals. So that healthy eating and exercise regimen you kicked of during the new moon or at the start of the waxing moon will show greater results. You may feel an extra boost of enthusiasm and motivation and a bit more optimism. It’s more action-oriented. If you found yourself more in of a planning mode with your goals during the new moon, then this is a good time for beginning the change by taking action to achieve those goals. It doesn’t have to be anything monumental. Even small steps provide that positive momentum. Around the 10th day of the waxing moon, you may feel that energy and momentum from just days earlier has hit an energetic pause button. An energetic plateau of sorts. Instead of “forcing” ahead against the moon’s pull, use this time for taking care of little lingering detail with those initial first steps in preparation for the full moon. The Waning Moon
Unlike the waxing moon that becomes more fully illuminated during its phase, the waning moon decreases in illumination as it transitions from the brightness of the full moon to the hidden view of the new moon.
And where the waxing energy is more action-oriented, the vibe of the waning moon is more introspective. This is on optimal energy for going deep cleansing and releasing bad habits, addictions, and toxic relationships and influences. Review your efforts and be gentle with yourself as you correct any misdirections you may have taken. Of removing blockages and obstacles. And by doing, it can become a time of healing as toxins are released. The focus is not so much on planting and growth but more on completing, clearing, and releasing. This also includes harvesting and reaping the rewards or effects of your efforts. This is the Universe’s preparation for making room for the “rebirth” opportunities of the upcoming new moon.
