Every few months, I receive a question inquiring about the difference between karmic lessons versus karmic debts. So let’s discuss and simplify.
Karmic Lessons
Karmic lessons are identified as the missing vibrations in in your official birth name. These missing vibrations represent energies not experienced in prior lifetimes. They show up in your life over and over again until you “master “ the energy of the vibration. This is not to say that once you master the energy that you are immune to this type of lesson in the future. It means you are better able to handle them with a greater ease.
Similarly, for those using numerology who are not believers in past lives, think of a karmic lesson as those seemingly repeating lessons you are meant to work on and master in your lifetime. To illustrate this through a celebrity example, I chose Selena Gomez: actor, producer, and singer. Let’s take a look at the vibrations in her official birth name:
S + E + L + E + N + A M + A + R + I + E G + O + M + E + Z
1 + 5 + 3 + 5 + 5 + 1 + 5 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 5 + 7 + 6 + 4 + 5 + 8
As you notice, Selena is missing a 2 vibration in the letters in her official birth name. This indicates her karmic lesson is to learn not to sacrifice “self” to avoid conflict & preserve (false) peace. Now keep in mind that most people have at least one missing vibration in their official birth name.
For those without a missing vibration in their official birth name like Former President Bill Clinton, this means you have all of the lessons... or none. And their free-will choices create a new karma for themselves. Karmic Debt (Numbers)
Karmic debt numbers are based on experiences and free-will choices from past lives and a concept of “you reap what you sow”. It has to do with a kind of debt people accumulate from those past lives be it a debt from abuse of freedom or from abuse of love, for example.
Numbers 13, 14, 16, and 19 are considered karmic debt numbers. They reflect a selfishness from a past life that had to do with being self-serving in some way that negatively impacted others... And that in this lifetime, you have an opportunity to in a sense “set the record straight”.
13 karmic debt from laziness and negativity
14 karmic debt from misuse of freedom 16 karmic debt from misuse of love 19 karmic debt from self-centeredness
I want to make clear that this is not a reflection of you in this lifetime. Nor should you live in guilt in the choices you made in past lives. Rather, karmic debt numbers (as with karmic lessons) help shed light on some of the how’s and why’s in your life. Why some areas of your life seem to flow with an innate and natural ease while others seem to provide the same lesson over and over again?
Both karmic lessons and karmic debt numbers help you understand how things got the way they are. But more importantly… and through numerology… you can gain practical guidance for getting going in the right direction by viewing your circumstances with greater clarity for detecting those (karmic) hidden roadblocks... and working through them.
